How to get the best visual quality out of multifocal glasses..

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Many people are switching to all kinds of Bifocal Prescription lenses nowadays. I am sure all of you are wondering what is that Segment Height measurement that you need to provide when you placing your order online for the prescription eyewear. Let me explain it closely to keep you from wondering. Segment Height is the measurement that tells the lab where to stop the reading portion of your prescription and start the distance portion of it. It is best to get that measurement on the specific frames that you are planning on ordering because that measurement is really critical. If that transition line is higher or lower than needs to be it means that you will most likely have vision distortion and will not be able to use your new eyewear.

There are a few different ways for you to get the Segment Height. It is best if your doctor does the measuring, but you will need to provide him with the frames that you are ordering. You can try to find the frames locally. However, we have a great Prescription Sunglasses Trial Program where we will send the frames to you to keep you from all the hassle with trying to find the frames yourself. I strongly encourage all people who are planning on ordering No-line Bifocal or Lined Bifocal lenses to check out our trial program today.

Prescription Sunglasses & Eyeglasses – In store or On-line?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Have you ever considered buying prescription sunglasses or eyeglasses on-line? You will probably say: “How could you buy a pair of prescription eyewear on-line!?!? I need to try the frames on first, and to be honest, I do not know how to interpret my prescription!” Believe or not, but more and more people nowadays go on-line when shopping for prescription eyewear.

No doubts, that if you already know the brand and model number of the eyewear that you are willing to buy – on-line is the best way. You already know that this frame fits you well. You just type in the part number into a search engine and check out who sells it! As a rule the pricing is much better on-line. Such professional on-line optical stores as OpticsPlanet.net and EyewearPlanet.com have experts on staff who can help you placing an order in case you need help understanding your prescription. Some stores even publish guides that help you to read glasses prescription.

What if you want to buy a new pair of prescription eyeglasses and you are afraid that you pick a frame, order it with Rx lenses on-line and it won’t fit? Here is a trick. Most on-line stores offer an eyewear trial program. Choose a frame or two (either sunglasses or eyeglasses – does not matter) and the on-line retailer will ship them to you for a trial. You receive the frames, try them on and, make the decision. Even if the style of the eyewear you are looking for is not available through the special trial program, you can always order an identical pair of non-Rx sunglasses or eyeglasses frames with Demo non-Rx lenses (Demo are plastic lenses that the new frames come with. They are taken off when an optician installs Rx lenses).

People shop on-line in order to save time and money! In addition an on-line store offers you wider choice of products than any of your local optical shops does. Limited space on the shelves versus unlimited web space ;)

Are you thinking on what glasses to buy this season? I have an answer – Vogue eyeglasses!!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

I am so excited!!! I, finally, received my Vogue eyeglasses today. Lab did a wonderful job on the prescription lenses for me, but more importantly I love the new frames. I got the one of the new Vogue frames with the rhinestone.  I was showing it to everybody at work because I was so happy to get it, and, you will not believe it but 6 people placed an order that
same day for vogue eyeglasses. Two girls didn’t even need prescription lenses, but they loved the way the glasses looked so they ordered it with regular clear lenses. They also got the AR coating just to prevent all the light from reflecting in the lenses. So, I decided to tell you how popular Vogue eyeglasses and Vogue sunglasses will be this season. Rhinestones are very popular and I think that you absolutely have to check the Vogue eyewear collection on the website. You never know
maybe you will find a pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses that you will love just like I love mine!

Eyeglasses that turn into Sunglasses

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Some people find prescription eyeglasses with transitional lenses very convenient. Transitional lenses adjust to the light conditions (that’s why they are also called lighted adjusting lenses). In other words, these prescription lenses darken under direct sunlight. LA lenses are available in all lens materials and different blank sizes, so your prescription should not be a problem.

If you would like to wear your frames as eyeglasses / sunglasses, you will have a choice of “clear to gray” or “clear to brown” transitional lenses. They will go completely clear inside and turn to gray of brown outside. Some sunglasses manufacturers also make tinted lenses that become darker when exposed to UV rays. Serengeti and Ray-Ban are two most popular photochromic sunglasses designers. Serengeti even offers their light adjusting lenses as a part of their prescription sunglasses program – Serengeti prescription sunglasses.

I also know some people who got sunglasses frames with the light adjusting lenses that go from clear to gray/brown. They liked the sunglass frames a lot and did not want to switch to an eyeglass frame. With the current wide choice of eyewear designers you can always find something that will work just right for you!

I will blog more about rx sunglasses with transitional lenses later!

I broke my sunglasses/eyeglasses! Want to buy an identical ones!!!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Sometimes it is not that easy to find the same pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses, especially if you purchased them long time ago and they are already discontinued by the manufacturer. Working for many years in the eyewear industry, I came up with a few useful tips.

Problem: :-( I forgot where I purchased them!Solution: :-) As long as you know the brand and the style or the manufacturer’s SKU, finding an identical pair of sunwear or eyeglasses is not a problem. If you still have the broken glasses, take a look at the temples. Brand name and model number are usually printed on the backside of either right or left temple. If you are looking at eyeglasses frames, you might also find the lens size printed there. Knowing the brand you can easily google it and find the closest optical store that sells this brand or even better – an on-line store and have a new pair of new sunglasses / eyeglasses delivered to your porch. And we all know that on-line stores usually offer better deals. ;-)

Problem: :-( Can not find the same specs. It looks like they are discontinued!Solution: :-) That’s not a rear case. Especially if you are looking for some designer sunglasses or prescription eyeglasses. Such manufacturers of designer eyewear as Ray Ban, Serengeti, D&G sunglasses and many others add new styles and discontinue old ones every few months. One of the reasons is that very often their optical collections reflect the same trends as their designer clothing lines. As the clothes fashion changes, so does the eyewear fashion. Some styles go away, some styles stay, some new models are introduced. The good news is that old styles come back in fashion. So if you can not find the eyewear looking by the same model number that was printed on your old frames, check out current eyewear collection from the same brand. Sometimes old styles are back to the collection as “re-innovated” models under a different part number. You might be lucky and your frame will be one of those!

I hope some of you will find my suggestions helpful!

Cheap Glasses … Give it a try?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I was Googling for glasses the other day and stumbled on a number of web sites that offer eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses for around $39.95. I thought, heck, even I can afford a low-risk gamble like that. I checked them out and the selection of styles, including some classics that my trendy local eyewear chain wouldn’t be caught dead carrying, made me excited. At that price, I could be really irresponsible and order a cutting-edge fashion frame and a pair just for reading.

I showed the web sites to a co-worker and she said I should find out what their return policy is. I thought this was a good suggestion because, along with not wanting to toss my money into the virtual unknown of the internet, I am concerned about who gets my personal information and credit card number.

Alas, my research on the companies cooled my burning desire to be cheap chic. Basic information, such as return policy, phone number or e-mail address, was sometimes missing and this did not give me a warm-fuzzy. I was not sold by the companies with unclear pictures or little information about the frames. Some stores looked like fronts for drop-ship operations that might confuse my order with the tube-socks they sell on another site.

The jury is still out. If I find a style I can’t live without and I get a sense the company’s real business isn’t stealing credit cards, I might give it a try. I would definitely pursue it if I was buying for someone else who is in a low income situation, especially with the classic, long-lasting frame styles some of these stores offer.

At OpticsPlanet, we don’t have prescription eyewear for $39.95, yet, but we do have the best world-known brands of Sunglasses, Prescription Sunglasses, top-notch customer service and a Return Policy.

I will keep you informed if I decide to take the leap and try the others.

Making Progress With My Progressives

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

I am currently wearing my first pair of glasses with multi-focal lenses. It’s taken me a while but I’ve come to like them.

Just around the time I bought these, some friends were talking about how they were adjusting to their new progressives and they complained about dizziness and headaches. Fortunately, that was not my experience. The thing that made me want to rip them off my face was that the near vision lens seemed to be positioned too high and was blurring my distance vision. I noticed it especially when I was driving and needed to see distant most of the time.

It made me feel like I wasted my money but I knew going into this that there might be a few false starts.

From the beginning, I was wary of how well multi-focal would work in small sized lenses, but the sales person assured me there was no problem. I originally wanted glasses with larger lenses but they’re hard to find, especially for men.

I am considering taking the glasses back to the store to see if the nose pads can be spread out so they sit lower on my face.

I’ve had these for a couple of months, now, and I’m starting to like them. I am naturally looking through the right part of the lenses for near and far, and I am not feeling like I want to tear them from my head. I’ve even had friends ask me to read small print for them.

Empowered with a print out of my prescription, I am on the look out for discount priced glasses and, if the price is low enough, I’ll buy a pair for general use and a pair specifically for reading and see if I like that arrangement.

Many of the brand name Prescription Sunglasses & Prescription Eyeglasses we sell at OpticsPlanet are available as bifocals and no-line progressives. In my next blog entry, I’ll give more details about how to order multi-focals. Until then, I recommend that you see our Bifocal Guide and our Trial Program.

The Luxury of Luxottica

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

As a Product Specialist in the Eyewear Group at OpticsPlanet, I like to think our superior customer service is what brings people to our store. Of course, good customer service doesn’t hurt, but our main attraction may be great prices on the best name brands.

Our commitment to the best prices on the best brands is what guides us in the Eyewear Group, and we are proud to announce that we are an authorized distributor of the eyewear collections of the Luxottica Group. These collections represent some of the most prestigious designer names including Ray-Ban, D&G by Dolce & Gabbana, DKNY Donna Karan New York, Anne Klein, Brooks Brothers and Arnette, among others.

Of course, each label has it’s own personality. In general, all of the Luxoticca Group labels tend to appeal to people who appreciate quality craftsmanship and leading-edge fashion, but there are certain names that especially express a unique identity. Anne Klein is famous for innovative fashion for women, DKNY Donna Karan New York is edgy urban and Arnette is California cool.

We are constantly trying to make it easier for you to find what you want. We have grouped our glasses into categories such as gender, age, frame color, lens color, etc., and included menus to quickly display a selected style. See the drop-down menus on the Rayban Brand Page or on the D&G by Dolce and Gabbana Brand Page for samples of this feature.

As an authorized dealer of every brand we sell, our glasses are 100% authentic, brand new and come with the full manufacturer warranty. We do not sell replicas, imitations, fakes or cheap sunglasses. The lenses for our Prescription Sunglasses and Rx Eyeglasses are prepared to manufacturer specification by a manufacturer authorized lab. See Luxottica Group Designer Sunglasses & Fashion Eyewear for a list of our Luxottica labels.
