Flexible Spending Account Money - Use it or Lose it!

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Now is a good time to check if you have any money left on your flexible spending account. Most likely if you don’t spend it by the end of the year, you will lose it. The so-called IRS “use it or lose it” rule. If you haven’t scheduled a doctor’s appointment yet, you probably won’t be able to squeeze in as everybody is booked till the end of the year. I would recommend to spend some time reading your flexible spending account expenses guide. You will definitely find something you can use your flex dollars on. For example, besides medical procedures and prescription medicine, some programs cover such things as first aid kits, band aids, cough syrup, over the counter drugs, etc. Or if you need vision correction, you might get an extra pair of prescription eyeglasses. You can get some high end Ray Ban prescription eyeglasses and Polo eyeglasses, or designer Vogue prescription eyeglasses and D&G prescription eyeglasses with your pre-tax money. If you are a fashionista and already own a few pairs of eye glasses, think about a nice pair of prescription sunglasses that you can use for driving. Ray Ban prescription sunglasses or Bolle Prescription sunglasses could be a good choice.

Use it before you lose it ;-)

What is Segment Height?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

I have recently written a post in my sunglasses blog about Pupil Distance and why this measurement is a must when you order glasses on line. A lot of people found this entry useful, so I decided to talk little bit more about other facial measurements that opticians take.

When you order eyeglasses with single vision lenses, the prescription provided by your eye care professional and PD is usually all you need. If you decide to get bifocal glasses, you will also need to know Segment Height measurement for the frame you choose. This measurement determines the height of the reading area of the lens. Why is it necessary to get an accurate seg height measurement when ordering bifocal sunglasses or eyeglasses? Because if the reading segment of the lens is misplaced, you will have to bend your neck backwards or pull the eye glasses down the nose when reading.

Large Lenses vs Small Lenses in Sunglasses.

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

I went camping recently. While being there I got into a fight with one of the guys there. I was wearing Vogue sunglasses with large lenses, and he said that he doesn’t like sunglasses like that since he can not see my face. So, I told him that it is a personal choice that person chooses himself. It might be true that smaller lenses look classier, but it does not mean that large lenses look bad or have no benefits.

Large lenses cover your eyes more, therefore, blocking more of the UV rays from the sun. At the same time, it does not make any face look bad just because other people can not see their face. Most people look great in sunglasses with large lenses. Others look good in sunglasses with small lenses.

Most sunglasses brands are making both styles of sunglasses nowadays. Look at one of the most popular brands like Ray Ban sunglasses. They have many models with small lenses, and for some reason it is more popular for men then women. They also have many models with large lenses they look modern and stylish. Same think with Ray Ban prescription eyeglasses. So, do not listen to other people if they are telling you that large or small lenses look bad just because they think that.

How to Protect Eyewear Lenses from Scratches.

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Get sunglasses with glass lenses. Glass is known not only for its outstanding optical properties, but also for the scratch-resistance. A lot of eyewear brands offer their signature glass lenses - Serengeti and Ray Ban are some of them. If you need vision correction, some eyeglasses frames can be fitted with Rx glass lenses as well. Though I would not recommend glass if your eyeglasses prescription is high as the lenses will be thick.

tipps_zur_reinigung.jpgIf glass isn’t an option, make sure that the lenses are treated with a special coating to prevent scratches. Some lens materials like polycarbonate have scratch-resistant coating built-in, some materials like CR-39 don’t. CR-39 requires an additional anti-scratch coating to be applied on top of the lens. If you buy sunglasses, you can check with a sales rep what the lens material is and if the lenses have anti-scratch protection. When buying prescription eyeglasses, you can request an additional anti-scratch coating.

Use a cotton lens cloth to clean the lenses. Avoid rubbing them with a paper towel as it can leave micro-scratches on a lens. Also try to keep your sunglasses in a protective case when you are not using them. A good quality pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses from a decent brand usually comes in a protective case or a pouch and is accompanied by a cleaning cloth.

If you take a good care of your eyewear, it will leave longer.

We have competitive pricing at all times!

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Optics Planet Eyewear CollectionLately, I receive a lot of questions about the prices for eyewear collection. People are asking why our prices are lower than other online companies and if that means that our glasses are not authentic.  I just want to assure you that absolutely all of our sunglasses and eyeglasses are 100% authentic and come directly from the manufacturer. We are an authorized dealer for all our eyewear brands. Most of our glasses come with a 1 year manufacturer’s warranty depending on the manufacturer.

We do, however, try to have the lowest prices possible for our customers. Our prices are competitive, and most of the time, they are lower than other online stores. If you will find a pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses with a lower price than ours, then we will try to price match that price for you. We, also, offer free shipping with all orders over $29.95.

Feel free to check out our sunglasses collection and don’t forget that we offer prescription sunglasses as well. :)

Advantages of Transition lenses

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Not too many people have perfect vision nowadays. A lot of people wear eyeglasses. However, all of those people have to have at least 2 pairs of eyewear: prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses, especially if they leave in a sunny state like California. You need a pair of sunglasses when you are outside to protect your eyes from the sun and eye fatigue. I am pretty sure many people are already aware of transition lenses. However, I want to tell the rest of the people that there is a great alternative for having 2 different pairs of prescription eyewear.

Transition lenses are the lenses that darken when exposed to direct UV radiation (sunlight) and lighten indoors or in sunlight absence. Therefore, you no longer need to spend more money to have prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses. Transition lenses fully darken under direct sunlight and perform just like any other sunglasses. Another advantage of transition lenses is that they will adjust to the lighting conditions. So, if it is not too bright outside but at the same time to sunny not too wear sunglasses, transition lenses will adjust to the condition for your eyes to feel comfortable.

Most of out prescription eyewear is avalable to order with transition lenses.I encourage everyone to, at least, consider transition lenses next time you will be buying prescription eyewear! :)

Why spend more money on custom prescription eyeglasses?!

Monday, May 25th, 2009

We had a customer who asked why he should spend more money on custom made prescription eyeglasses if he can buy glasses in one of those large supermarket pharmacy stores and spend much less. I want to tell you all why it would be more beneficial to spend more now and save more in a long run.

As far as I know such stores sell only reading glasses that come with premanufactured lenses. The price usually varies from $15.00 to $20.00 and the magnification is the same in both lenses. These are “brand-less” glasses (it usually just says “Made in China” on the temples) with no warranty. As a matter of rule the lenses are made from the cheapest plastic material and in very rare cases are coated for UV protection. But you are getting what you pay for - a cheap pair of reading eyeglasses.

Please keep in mind that these glasses are good only for reading or looking at any close objects. If you have myopia, and/or astigmatism, or presbyopia; or if you have different prescription in the right and left eyes, you will need to order custom made eyeglasses or prescription sun glasses. You can either order the glasses from your optician or take the script and buy new eyeglasses from one of the prescription glasses on line stores like OpticsPlanet or Shoptics. Both on line and local optical stores usually specialize in designer brand-name eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses that stand for their quality and offer full warranty. They cost more, but you get authentic brand new designer frames with perfect optical Rx lenses. On-line stores charge much less than local opticians. And to tell you the truth, when you order from an optician your Rx lenses will probably be made by the same lab some on-line retailer uses. You will get the same quality buying from an on-line store much cheaper.

That’s definitely a personal choice. If you don’t need far vision correction and would like to have cheap reading glasses that you can carry in your pocket and put them on from time to time to read something, that’s a good option. But if you are looking for high performance, perfect optical quality, and maximum UV protection, welcome to one of the professional Eyewear Stores!

How to get the best visual quality out of multifocal glasses..

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Many people are switching to all kinds of Bifocal Prescription lenses nowadays. I am sure all of you are wondering what is that Segment Height measurement that you need to provide when you placing your order online for the prescription eyewear. Let me explain it closely to keep you from wondering. Segment Height is the measurement that tells the lab where to stop the reading portion of your prescription and start the distance portion of it. It is best to get that measurement on the specific frames that you are planning on ordering because that measurement is really critical. If that transition line is higher or lower than needs to be it means that you will most likely have vision distortion and will not be able to use your new eyewear.

There are a few different ways for you to get the Segment Height. It is best if your doctor does the measuring, but you will need to provide him with the frames that you are ordering. You can try to find the frames locally. However, we have a great Prescription Sunglasses Trial Program where we will send the frames to you to keep you from all the hassle with trying to find the frames yourself. I strongly encourage all people who are planning on ordering No-line Bifocal or Lined Bifocal lenses to check out our trial program today.
