Interesting Fact about Sunglasses

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I was planning to take the kids to Orlando to visit Disney World on their spring break. I was browsing the net making some research and came across with an interesting fact about sunglasses. “Since 1971, an estimated 1.5 million pairs of eyewear have been submitted to the Disney World Lost and Found. Over 100 pieces of sun glasses are stored into the Magic Kingdom every day.” Amazing, right?

Why would you trust an online store!

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I had a customer, recently, who called me to thank me for our great customer service. He was very worried at first when he decided to buy Wiley X Prescription sunglasses online. He said that Optics Planet website looked very good, but he was afraid to have the online shopping experience.

He called us for an advice and our eyewear specialist was very helpful and answered all of his questions. Then, he found an online store that had lower prices and we price matched the price for him. He placed an order, and was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and fast service that he got. He, now, loves his sunglasses and would not trade them for anything.

Optics Planet is a company that is here to provide you with the best possible customer service experience. We try to have the best pricing, but if you find a lower price anywhere, we will be happy to price match that price for you. We offer great authentic collections of Serengeti Prescription sunglasses and Bolle Prescription sunglasses. We will custom make Ray Ban Prescription sunglasses for you as well.

Take a look at our eyewear collection! Don’t be scared to shop online as Optics Planet is here for you!

How to Protect Eyewear Lenses from Scratches.

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Get sunglasses with glass lenses. Glass is known not only for its outstanding optical properties, but also for the scratch-resistance. A lot of eyewear brands offer their signature glass lenses - Serengeti and Ray Ban are some of them. If you need vision correction, some eyeglasses frames can be fitted with Rx glass lenses as well. Though I would not recommend glass if your eyeglasses prescription is high as the lenses will be thick.

tipps_zur_reinigung.jpgIf glass isn’t an option, make sure that the lenses are treated with a special coating to prevent scratches. Some lens materials like polycarbonate have scratch-resistant coating built-in, some materials like CR-39 don’t. CR-39 requires an additional anti-scratch coating to be applied on top of the lens. If you buy sunglasses, you can check with a sales rep what the lens material is and if the lenses have anti-scratch protection. When buying prescription eyeglasses, you can request an additional anti-scratch coating.

Use a cotton lens cloth to clean the lenses. Avoid rubbing them with a paper towel as it can leave micro-scratches on a lens. Also try to keep your sunglasses in a protective case when you are not using them. A good quality pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses from a decent brand usually comes in a protective case or a pouch and is accompanied by a cleaning cloth.

If you take a good care of your eyewear, it will leave longer.

Prescription Swimming Goggles

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Rec Specs Shark Prescription Swim GogglesWith summer time upon us I would like to take the time to stress in my sunglasses blog how important swimming goggles are while we’re underwater. Whether you are in a lake, the ocean, or the local pool it is always important to keep your eyes safe. Not only are swimming goggles helpful when thinking about eye safety but they’re fun also. In a lake or the ocean there can be harmful particles in the water that can get into our eyes.

Algae, little sticks, and bacteria are just a few of the things that may harm our eyes. In the local pool the chlorine is very bad for the eyes. It dries out our eyes and could cause damage long term. So this summer please be safe and have a blast using our prescription swimming goggles underwater!!!

Great gifts for great fathers!!!

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Just a little reminder! Father’s day is coming up in few days. I am sure that lots of people still didn’t buy anything for their fathers (I am one of these people :)). What could be a better gift for fathers than a pair of good sunglasses?! Prescription sunglasses would be even better, especially if your father has bad vision.

Take a look at Serengeti sunglasses as your gift option. These sunglasses have great performance. They are, also, very classy looking sunglasses and will fit most face types and sizes.

Ray Ban would be another great gift option for your dads. Ray Ban sunglasses have been popular for many many years now and I am sure your father would be thrilled to get those as a gift!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

Happy 4th of JulyThis year’s 4th of July happens to be on Saturday. I am not sure if some of you will have Friday off since Saturday is a weekend. However, I am sure that it will be sunny and that most people will spend their whole day outside celebrating. It will be very sunny and uncomfortable for your eyes to be outside the whole day. This is a perfect time to buy sunglasses if you still don’t have any and still receive them on time for the holiday.

I want to introduce the most popular sunglasses that are always in stock and ready to ship to you at any time. Serengeti Aviator sunglasses have been popular for a long time and still are!! You will not go wrong with aviator style sunglasses.

Another great pair to consider is Ray Ban RB4091 sunglasses which are very shick and cool looking for this season.

And, don’t forget about Bolle Parole sunglasses which are great for sports and every day activities. The lenses are very durable and you will not have to worry about dropping the glasses and breaking the lens.

Happy 4th of July and remember not to drink and drive!! :)

Serengeti Progressive lenses update!! - Part II

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Hi everyone. I would like to give you heads-up. I have just met my Serengeti rep and he gave me more info on the new Serengeti NXT PhD Rx lenses they are going to introduce this summer. As I have already mentioned in my previous post, Serengeti Cornea Glass Rx lenses will be available in single vision form only. Prescription sunglasses with the new Serengeti NXT PhD Rx lenses will be available in both single vision and progressive forms.

I was informed that the new lens will feature the same optical quality and photochromic properties that the current glass lenses feature. The only difference will be that Serengeti prescription glasses with the new lenses will be lighter in weight and allow higher prescriptions. I will keep you posted ;-)

Serengeti Progressive lenses update!!

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I need to let you know that there was a change in Serengeti Progressive Prescription lenses. Glass lenses are no longer available in a progressive form. However, it is still available in a single vision form. Until June 1st there are no progressive lenses available from Serengeti Prescription sunglasses collection.

After June 1st they will start making Trivex lenses (called Polar PHD) in a progressive prescription form. The cost should be about the same for the new lens material. Trivex lenses will still come with the same Serengeti lens technology, but now it will be lighter and should be able to take higher prescriptions.

If you are looking for progressive prescription lenses made out of glass, please take a look at Ray Ban prescription sunglasses.

Why Glass Lens Material is the Best in Sunglasses?

Friday, May 15th, 2009

I missed you!! I wasn’t able to write anything for few days because I was conducting sunglasses training for our company. While conducting the training I touched up on a subject that I want to talk to you about.

When I was child my parents and all their friends were buying sunglasses. They way they were choosing sunglasses always amazed me. They always said that real sunglasses only come with glass green lenses. I got used to that fact and grew up thinking that all other sunglasses can damage our eyes.

Serengeti SunglassesNow, that I am an eyewear specialist, I understand why they thought that glass green lenses are the best. Glass lenses have the best visual quality. It is really amazing how sharp the objects are when you are looking through a glass lens. Most popular brands of sunglasses, like Ray Ban and Serengeti, come with glass lenses. However, nowadays there are more great lens materials available than there were 20 years ago. Polycarbonate lenses are very similar to glass. They come with a good visual quality and they are much lighter than glass. Polycarbonate lenses are definitely better for sports than glass because they are very durable.

So for those of you, who buy sunglasses with strictly glass lenses, especially if you buy prescription sun glasses, I would recommend trying polycarbonate lenses. I am sure you will enjoy them as much as you enjoy your favorite glass lenses!
