Which Wayfarer is right for me?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

There are a lot of unanswered questions out there like, what is at Area 51? Or who killed JFK? Or who shot JR from Dallas. There are two questions I hear all the time; how do I size the Ray-Ban Wayfarer and which size is right for me? Now those are tough ones. Heck, we have even dedicated OpticsPlanet forums and blogs to the topics.

I love History! Let’s start with the history of the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. The design was first produced in 1952 by Ray-Ban. They came up with a new groundbreaking style that changed the eyewear world forever. In the past sunglasses and eyeglasses were made with metal frames. They introduced the plastic molded frame that reminds people of the classic Cadillac fin of the 1950’s and 60’s. It’s a signature look of the era. The hype declined in the 1970’s but the Wayfarer wasn’t going away quietly. Ray-Ban placed the Wayfarer in movies and commercials causing the Pepsi generation to take a new look at this unique frame. Now that’s what I call marketing! Today the excitement is still there. JFK, Bob Dylan, Don Johnson and Tom Cruise all wore Ray-Ban wayfarers. So now it’s your turn.

Model numbers such as the Ray-Ban RB2140 called the Original Wayfarer offers sizes 50 and 54mm with the temple length of 150mm. The distance between the lenses is 22mm and 18mm. This style is more traditional. There is the New Wayfarer RB2132 with the lenses sizes of 52 and 55mm. Both sizes have a DBL of 18mm and the temple length is 145mm. There is another Ray-Ban Wayfarer that is called the Folding Wayfarer RB4105. This one is cool because it folds at the bridge and the middle of the temples for a compact result. This is perfect for the stylish person on the go. You can stow them away in a shirt pocket or purse. The RB4105 is the exact same size as the RB2140. Ray-Ban suggests that you that the lens size, multiply it by two and then add the distance between the lenses. For example take the RB2140; 50+50+22=122mm. This is not an exact science but it gives you an “approximate” idea. It’s always better to try them on. Here is a cheat sheet for you:

The Larger Wayfarer: Ray Ban RB2140: 54mm lens size

The Medium Wayfarer: Ray Ban RB2140: 50mm lens size

The Smaller Wayfarer: Ray Ban RB2132: 52mm lens size

Of course this is just a cheat sheet. The best way to figure out if a frame is right for you is to put them on your face. OpticsPlanet has them, order them and try them on. Experience tradition and make a statement. The Ray-Ban Wayfarer comes in several colors and original prints. Eyewear is fashion and just like your clothes they have to fit just right.

OpticsPlanet is supporting Chicago Blackhawks! We won!!!!!!!(part II)

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

What did I tell you!! I had no doubts that Blackhawks would win!! I was at the bar watching the game the whole night. It was so intense that I bit all my nails off :) . We could not hear a thing when the game started, but after the 3rd goal that Flyers made the whole bar went dead. People were really quiet watching the overtime. When Patrick Kane made that goal the place went wild. I, personally, lost my voice and can’t talk today. People were dancing on tables, taking pictures with people they don’t even know, hugging and kissing each other. It was beautiful! The city was even crazier last night. Fireworks were everywhere. People were running around and giving high fives to people in the cars. It was amazing! I am sure we have more seasons like that coming!!! I wish I was there today meeting the team when they came home. I heard Blackhawks let their fans touch the Stanley Cup. This is what I call a real team with a real spirit! Go Chicago Blackhawks!

And guess what! I am getting my Ray Ban sunglasses! However now I am not sure which ones I want and if I want Ray Ban at all :) . Help me choose! I like Ray Ban RB3267 sunglasses, Burberry BE3026Q sunglasses, or Serengeti Vittoria sunglasses.

OpticsPlanet Blackhawks FansGo Blackhawks!! Today might be the day when Chicago Blackhawks will become Stanley Cup Champions. Last time they won was a while ago and I really hope that today will be their lucky day. Optics Planet is supporting the team all the way. For the whole day today we are wearing Blackhawks Jerseys. I am wearing one myself along with at least half of the company!

One of my good friends is actually a fan of Philadelphia Flyers. We made a bet, who ever wins the finals will get a pair of any Ray Ban sunglasses. My choice would be Ray Ban Aviators sunglasses. He likes Ray Ban Wayfarer more. So far the game has been pretty intense, but I am sure that by the end of today I will get a brand new pair of Ray Bans. :) OpticsPlanet Blackhawk Fans part II
